Is BePresent free? Only for the trial. edgi is

By the edgi team

BePresent is free to download, but using it past the free trial is a subscription: $59.99 a year as of October 2026. If you want a free app that blocks TikTok and Instagram and gives you a streak to protect, edgi does it at no cost: its Focus lock opens your apps after a 60-second Lesson, and every Lesson becomes a card on a Map of what you've learned.

We make edgi, and we made its lock free so the people who most want one never have to think about the price.

How BePresent's trial works

BePresent's App Store pricing lists the $59.99 yearly plan with different free-trial lengths, so the one you're offered can vary. Like any App Store subscription, it renews into the paid plan unless you cancel first. To see the date, open the iPhone's Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions.

The free version of the same idea

BePresent works because it gives you something to aim at. That part is sound. The research on goals says why:

60-second Lesson

Goal setting

A specific, hard goal beats "do your best", because only a goal you can miss tells you when to push.

edgi's Focus turns that into a goal per app. You write it as a sentence: "I'll open TikTok no more than 3 times a day, for 5 min each time." You choose 1 to 30 opens, 1 to 60 minutes and the days it holds, and whether a Lesson opens it once a day or every time.

When you reach for TikTok, the block screen shows the goal back to you: your streak, your count ("1/3 Opens Today") and "One lesson opens TikTok for 5 minutes." A stricter rule starts the moment you save it. A looser one waits until midnight, so the goal you set in daylight is still the goal at 11 p.m.

What the streak is made of

edgi's reward is the minute itself. The Lesson behind the lock is one idea you guess at, tap through and test in 60 seconds, from 44,000+ Lessons across 105,000 ideas: why a feed shows every friend's best night at once, why caffeine gives you no energy, why a new habit takes longer than 21 days. Finish it and the card is yours. Cards turn foil, then gold, as you come back to the idea, fill Sets with a finish line, and light up your Map next to everything they connect to.

So the streak has something in it. A year of it leaves a map of the ideas that got between you and your phone.
