Privacy Policy

Effective date: April 14, 2026 Last updated: April 14, 2026

Edgi Labs, Inc. ("Edgi," "we," "us") is a Delaware corporation headquartered in New York, NY. We operate the edgi mobile app and the edgi.tv website (together, the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you use the Service, how we use it, and the choices you have.

If you don't agree with this Policy, please don't use the Service. Your use of edgi is also governed by our Terms of Use.

We've tried to keep this readable. If anything is unclear, email us at [email protected].

1. Information we collect

a. Account and profile information

When you sign up, we collect:

  • Sign-in identifiers: your email address, and — if you sign in with Apple or Google — the identifier and basic profile information those providers share with us.
  • Profile details you provide: username, first and last name, bio, and profile photo.
  • Onboarding answers: your learning goal, role (e.g., student, curious adult), and audience, which we use to personalize your feed.
  • Preferences: preferred notification hour, time zone, and whether your learning activity is visible to other users.

b. Content you create

edgi lets you create and share content. We collect and store what you post, including:

  • Comments and replies on videos, concept cards, and learning paths.
  • Likes, follows, saves, and bookmarks.
  • Explainers, quizzes, and learning paths you generate (including the prompts, PDFs, or links you submit to the AI and the generated audio, text, and images).
  • Voice recordings (up to 90 seconds) you record to explain a concept.
  • Shares you initiate from the app.

c. Learning and activity data

To power features like XP, streaks, your mind map, and recommendations, we log what you do in the app:

  • Videos you watch and how far you watch them.
  • Questions you answer and whether you got them right.
  • Concepts you claim or unclaim, paths you start or complete, and checkpoints you pass.
  • Searches you run and results you tap.
  • Session start and end times and session duration.
  • In-app events (screens viewed, cards opened, features used).

d. Device and technical information

We automatically collect:

  • Device model, operating system and version, and app version.
  • A device identifier and, if you enable push notifications, your push notification token.
  • Log data including IP address, approximate location derived from IP, timestamps, and error and crash reports.

e. Information from permissions you grant

If you choose to grant them, we access:

  • Camera and photo library — to let you set a profile picture.
  • Microphone — to record voice explanations and to play audio in the background.
  • Contacts — to help you find friends on edgi and invite them. We only access contacts when you tap the feature; we do not upload your full address book silently.
  • Notifications — to send you reminders and alerts.

You can change these permissions at any time in your device settings.

f. Cookies and similar technologies (web)

When you use edgi.tv in a browser, we and our service providers use cookies, local storage, and similar technologies to:

  • Keep you signed in and maintain your session.
  • Remember your preferences.
  • Measure how the site is used so we can improve it.
  • Detect and prevent fraud and abuse.

We don't use cookies for third-party advertising or cross-site behavioral targeting. You can control cookies through your browser settings; blocking essential cookies may break sign-in and other core features.

2. How we use your information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Run the Service — authenticate you, save your profile, sync your progress across devices, and deliver the content and features you ask for.
  • Personalize your experience — recommend videos, build your mind map, tailor learning paths, and choose which concept cards to show you.
  • Generate the AI content you request — turn the prompts, links, and files you submit into podcasts, quizzes, definitions, and images.
  • Enable social features — show your public profile, comments, and (if you allow it) your learning activity and mind map to other users.
  • Send communications — push notifications, reminders, and — if you enable them — streak and learning nudges. We'll also send service-related emails (security alerts, important changes).
  • Measure and improve the Service — understand which features are used, fix bugs, and prioritize what to build next.
  • Keep the Service safe — detect abuse, enforce our Terms of Use, and protect our users and ourselves.
  • Comply with law — respond to legal requests and meet our legal obligations.

We do not sell your personal information, and we don't show you third-party ads.

3. How we share your information

With other users

Some information is visible to other edgi users by design:

  • Your public profile (username, first and last name, bio, profile photo) is visible to anyone on edgi.
  • Comments, replies, and likes you post are visible to other users.
  • Explainers, podcasts, quizzes, and learning paths you publish are visible to other users.
  • Your learning activity — concepts you've claimed, content you've completed — is visible to other users if you leave "show learning activity" on in your settings. You can turn this off.
  • Your mind map is visible to people you mutually follow ("friends"). It is not visible to users who don't mutually follow you.

Think of comments, profiles, and published content like posts on a social feed — assume anything you post is public unless we say otherwise.

With service providers we use to run edgi

We share information with third parties that help us operate the Service. They only receive what they need to do their job and are bound by contracts requiring them to protect your data.

Provider What they do What they see
Supabase Hosts our database, authentication, file storage, and backend functions All account, profile, content, and activity data
Firebase Cloud Messaging (Google) Delivers push notifications Device push token and the contents of notifications we send you
Mixpanel Product analytics In-app events, session data, device info, and a hashed user ID
Sentry Crash and error reporting Error reports including device info, app version, and surrounding code context
Google (Gemini) Generates podcast scripts, quizzes, definitions, and text-to-speech audio The prompts, links, and files you submit for generation
OpenAI Generates concept card images and (optionally) text-to-speech audio The prompts we send for image or audio generation
Apple, Google Sign-in providers Identifier and basic profile info you choose to share when signing in

For legal and safety reasons

We may share information when we believe, in good faith, it's necessary to:

  • Comply with a law, regulation, legal process, or government request.
  • Enforce our Terms of Use or investigate potential violations.
  • Detect, prevent, or address fraud, security, or technical issues.
  • Protect the rights, property, or safety of Edgi, our users, or the public.

In a business transfer

If Edgi is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, bankruptcy, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We'll notify you (e.g., via email or in-app notice) if your information becomes subject to a different privacy policy.

With your direction

When you share a link, post a comment, or follow another user, you're directing us to share information accordingly. When you tap "share" to send a link outside edgi, that sharing is governed by the app or service you send it through.

4. AI features and your inputs

Many features in edgi — podcasts, quizzes, definitions, concept images, voice narration — are generated by AI models from Google (Gemini) and OpenAI.

When you use these features:

  • What we send the AI providers: the prompts, text, links, PDFs, or instructions you provide, plus the minimum context needed to generate a useful response.
  • What we don't send: we don't pass along your email, payment info, or other profile details that aren't needed for generation.
  • Provider retention: Google and OpenAI's handling of these inputs is governed by their own policies. We use their APIs on terms intended to limit training on your data and limit retention, but we can't guarantee their practices.
  • Don't submit sensitive data: please don't paste sensitive personal information (medical records, government IDs, passwords, etc.) into AI prompts or uploads.

AI-generated content can be wrong. We do our best, but treat everything the AI produces as a starting point — not professional advice.

5. Your choices and rights

Controls built into the app

  • Edit your profile — change your username, name, bio, and profile photo in Settings.
  • Notification settings — turn push notifications on or off, and set your preferred notification hour and time zone. You can also disable notifications entirely from your device settings.
  • Learning activity visibility — toggle "show learning activity" to control whether other users can see what you've been learning.
  • Mind map visibility — your mind map is only visible to people you mutually follow; unfollow someone to stop sharing.
  • Permissions — revoke camera, photos, microphone, contacts, or notifications access in your device settings at any time.
  • Delete your account — open Settings and tap "Delete Account." This deletes your profile and associated data from our systems. Some information may remain in backups for a limited time, and content you posted that others have interacted with (e.g., comments in a thread) may be retained in a de-identified form.

Your legal rights (region-dependent)

Depending on where you live, you may have rights under laws like the EU/UK GDPR, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA), or similar. These may include the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you.
  • Correct inaccurate personal information.
  • Delete your personal information.
  • Port your data to another service.
  • Object to or restrict certain processing.
  • Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.
  • Not be discriminated against for exercising these rights.

To exercise any of these rights, email us at [email protected]. We may need to verify your identity before responding. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

California residents: we don't sell or "share" (as defined by the CCPA for cross-context behavioral advertising) your personal information.

EEA/UK residents: our legal bases for processing are (i) performance of our contract with you (running the Service), (ii) our legitimate interests (improving and securing the Service), (iii) your consent (where required, e.g., push notifications), and (iv) compliance with legal obligations.

6. Data retention

We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. Specifically:

  • Account and profile data — kept while your account is active. Deleted when you delete your account.
  • Content you create (comments, podcasts, quizzes, paths) — kept while your account is active. On deletion, we remove or de-identify it, except where retention is needed to preserve the integrity of threads or public content others have built on.
  • Learning activity and analytics — kept in identifiable form while your account is active; aggregated, de-identified data may be retained longer to improve the Service.
  • Crash and error logs — kept for up to 90 days.
  • Backups — residual copies may persist in encrypted backups for a limited period after deletion.
  • Legal holds — we may retain information longer when required by law or to resolve disputes.

7. Security

We use industry-standard safeguards — encryption in transit (TLS), encryption at rest for our databases, access controls, and authentication — to protect your information. Our backend runs on trusted infrastructure providers (Supabase and their underlying cloud hosts).

No system is perfectly secure. If we ever learn of a breach that affects you, we'll notify you as required by applicable law.

You can help keep your account safe by using a strong, unique password (if you use email sign-in), keeping your device OS up to date, and being careful about what you share.

8. Children's privacy

edgi is intended for users 13 and older. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you are under 13, please don't use the Service or send us any information.

If you're a parent or guardian and believe your child under 13 has provided us with personal information, email us at [email protected] and we'll delete it.

In some jurisdictions (including parts of the EEA), the minimum age may be higher (e.g., 16). In those places, the local minimum age applies, and users under the age of digital consent need a parent or guardian's permission.

9. International users

Edgi Labs, Inc. is based in New York, NY, United States. If you use the Service from outside the United States, your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States and other countries where we or our service providers operate. These countries may have data protection laws different from yours.

When we transfer personal data out of the EEA, UK, or Switzerland, we rely on appropriate safeguards, such as Standard Contractual Clauses, where required.

10. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we'll let you know — by posting a notice in the app, sending an email, or another reasonable method — before the changes take effect. The "Effective date" at the top shows when the current version took effect. If you continue to use edgi after a change, you accept the updated Policy.
