Imprint app alternatives (Imprint: Learn Visually)

By the edgi team

The best alternative to the Imprint app ("Imprint: Learn Visually") is edgi. It's free from the first tap, a Lesson takes 60 seconds, roughly 3,500 Lessons are on art, and every idea you finish becomes a card on a Map of what you know. For one painting a day there's DailyArt; for free courses, Kinnu; for puzzles, Nibble or Brilliant; for bestseller summaries, Headway.

We make edgi, and we built it to be the most fun way to see how an idea works instead of reading about it. This page is about Imprint from imprintapp.com ("Imprint: Visual Micro Learning" on the App Store, "Imprint: Learn Visually" on Google Play), not the print software ImprintNext.

What Imprint's ads promise, and what's in the library

Imprint's sign-up pages promise subjects like "Replace scrolling with Biology." Its own course catalog, in its llms.txt, lists 165 courses. The biggest group is Personal Development with 65, then Psychology with 32; Philosophy is the smallest, at 8. When we went through all 165 public course pages on September 30, we tagged about 13 as history or natural science, and none of them was about anatomy or art history.

Reviewers noticed. Fifteen of the 500 most recent written App Store reviews we read on September 30 said an ad promised a subject they couldn't find, most often art or art history (6) and anatomy or biology (5).

"It was really solid for the one topic on art history they had but that was literally all they had." (App Store review, 4 stars, August 3, 2026)

The other common complaint is the price coming first. Imprint's FAQ ties the library to a paid subscription. In that sample of 500 reviews, 52% were one star, against 2.9% of all its ratings, and about three in five of the one- and two-star reviews mentioned a trial, a paywall, a card or a bill. Its pages also disagree about refunds: every course page promises "a full money-back guarantee," and its terms of service say "YOUR PURCHASE IS FINAL." Our Imprint review has the full count and how to cancel.

None of that makes the drawings less good. Imprint has 4.76 stars from 58,078 App Store ratings and Apple's Editors' Choice badge, and if you want a bestseller's argument laid out in pictures, it does that well.

Top pick: edgi, for the subject the ad promised

edgi covers the subjects Imprint's ads name and its public catalog mostly doesn't. Roughly 3,500 Lessons are on art alone, and there are more than 44,000 Lessons across 104,000 ideas. Each Lesson takes 60 seconds, and the interactive ones have you work the idea with your own hands instead of looking at a drawing of it. Finish one and it becomes a card on your Map, next to the ideas it connects to, so you can see what it leads to next.

It's free, and Lessons play in a browser with no account at edgi.tv/learn. Our best app to learn art history page goes deeper on the art side.

Here's one for anyone the art ad brought in, and it goes from a Seurat to the pixels on your own screen in a minute. You step back from the painting until the dots disappear. You make yellow out of red and green light. Then you find out why blue and yellow dots don't make green.

60-second Lesson

Pointillism

Step back from a Seurat until the dots go. The color you see is mixed by your eye, not on the canvas.

Free, and narrower: DailyArt for art, Kinnu for courses

DailyArt does one thing: "Every day, get one piece of fine art with a short story about it," from a collection of "more than 5,000 masterpieces." It's free, and Premium is $4.99 a month or $29.99 a year on the App Store, with 4.82 stars from 37,595 ratings. It's closer to a museum label a day than a lesson, and it's very good at that.

Kinnu's general-knowledge app is free on iPhone and Android, with 100 pathways and 899 lessons. You pick a pathway and work through written lessons with questions. It's the free version of Imprint's course shape, with mostly words where Imprint has pictures. See our Kinnu review.

Games and puzzles: Nibble or Brilliant

Nibble sells "interactive 10-min lessons & quizzes," and its App Store subtitle is "Math · Science · Art · History." Like Imprint, it's a subscription: there's a 7-day trial on the annual plan, and the App Store lists annual prices from $12.99 to $89.99. Our Nibble review covers what you get.

Brilliant is built on problems you solve, and its listing calls it "a superintelligent tutor for math and coding," so that's where its problems are. The App Store lists its plans from $19.99 to $191.99.

The bestsellers, as summaries: Headway

Imprint's listing has a section of visual guides to bestselling books. If those were the draw, Headway turns them into 15-minute text and audio summaries, "1700+ book summaries" by its App Store listing, with Premium from $12.99 to $89.99. Our Headway alternatives page covers the rest of that shelf.
