Is Nibble free? It's a subscription app

By the edgi team

Nibble is free to download, but it's a subscription app: as of September 30, 2026, Nibble's own pricing article says "there isn't a separate free plan," and its US App Store listing shows annual plans from $12.99 to $89.99, or $19.99 a month. If you want a free app to learn something new every day, edgi is free: a Lesson takes 60 seconds, every idea you finish becomes a card, and the cards build a Map of what you know.

We make edgi, and we built it so learning something new costs a minute and nothing else.

What Nibble costs

Nibble's App Store listing says that after you download the app, "you can choose a subscription plan most suitable for your goals." The in-app purchases it shows are annual subscriptions at $12.99, $19.99, $29.99, $59.99 and $89.99, a 3-month plan at $39.99 and a monthly plan at $19.99, plus a $19.99 item called "20+ Visualized Bestsellers." Its llms.txt says plainly that "Nibble is subscription-based."

Nibble's own pricing article quotes different figures, about $11.99 a month, $19.99 for 3 months and $49.99 a year, and says prices "vary by region, platform, and the time of purchase." Its FAQ adds that you can download the app "for free and explore limited content" before you subscribe. The 7-day free trial comes with the yearly plan.

edgi: free, with nothing to subscribe to

edgi costs nothing. Open a Lesson on whatever you're curious about, and a minute later you get it well enough to use it. The idea becomes your card and lights up on your Map, next to the ideas it connects to, so the next Lesson is right there. There are more than 104,000 ideas on the Map, and 44,000 of them have a Lesson.

Nibble lists personal finance among its topics. Here's edgi on the strangest thing about how people treat money:

60-second Lesson

Mental accounting

Money is interchangeable and nobody treats it that way. Lose a $10 ticket and most people go home; lose a $10 bill and they buy the ticket anyway.

On the Map, mental accounting leads to sunk cost and prospect theory. It also leads to Richard Thaler, who named it. Your cards turn foil, then gold, as you learn more around them. There's a feed of short videos from educational creators between Lessons, and on iPhone, edgi can lock TikTok or Instagram until you've done a Lesson.
