NerdSip alternatives, for swapping out the feed

By the edgi team

The best NerdSip alternative is edgi. It does the same job, replacing the feed you'd otherwise scroll, with 60-second Lessons that are free (NerdSip's free tier is one course a day), and every idea you finish becomes a card on a Map that shows you what to learn next. Kinnu is the free pick with a set syllabus, Imprint teaches in pictures, Brilliant is for math and code, and Khan Academy is free school subjects.

We make edgi, and we built it to be the most fun way to spend the minutes you'd otherwise lose to a feed.

What NerdSip is

NerdSip calls itself "a self-improvement app built to replace social media" (its llms.txt), and its homepage says it was "built by two physicists who got tired of brain-rot feeds." You type a topic, or swipe through a deck that its listing says "works like a dating app for courses," and it "turns any topic into a short, fact-checked course" of three, five or ten lessons. Each is roughly a minute of reading and ends with a quick challenge. Finishing earns XP and loot drops for an avatar, and there are weekly leagues.

It's young. It launched in March 2026 and has 4.75 stars from 120 App Store ratings. The free tier is one course a day. Gold, at $49.99 a year or $7.99 a month on the App Store after a 7-day trial, unlocks courses on any topic you type, more courses a day, a podcast mode and review rounds.

Top pick: edgi, the feed you swap in

edgi is built for the moment you'd open TikTok. There's a feed of short videos from educational creators, and there are Lessons: one idea in 60 seconds that you play rather than read. Finish one and the idea becomes a card in your collection, lit up on your Map next to the ideas it connects to. The next Lesson is whatever the last one made you curious about. Cards turn foil, then gold, as you learn more around them.

The Map holds more than 104,000 ideas, 44,000 of them with a Lesson, joined by 296,000 connections, so you won't run out of somewhere to go. If your phone habit is the real problem, edgi on iPhone can lock TikTok or Instagram until you've done a Lesson.

NerdSip and edgi both pitch themselves against the same habit, so here's our Lesson on it. It opens with a choice between a snake and some berries, then follows 4,675 Americans after the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing.

60-second Lesson

Doomscrolling

People who watched six hours of bombing coverage saw their stress rise almost three times as much as people who were there.

You want a free course with a set order: Kinnu

Kinnu's general-knowledge app is free: 100 pathways and 899 lessons, on iPhone and Android. You pick a pathway and it sets the order, the opposite of NerdSip's swipe deck. Its lessons are reading with questions, about 1,500 words at the median by our count. More in our Kinnu review.

You want pictures: Imprint

If NerdSip's summary infographic was your favorite part, Imprint is the app built around pictures; its App Store name is "Imprint: Visual Micro Learning." It has 4.76 stars from 58,078 App Store ratings, and it's a subscription: the App Store lists yearly plans at $74.99 and $99.99, and $15.99 a month. Our Imprint review has the rest.

Math, code or school: Brilliant or Khan Academy

Brilliant's App Store name is "Brilliant: Learn Math & Coding," and that's what it teaches. You solve interactive problems instead of reading about them. It's the most expensive app here, with App Store plans from $19.99 to $191.99.

Khan Academy is the free one: a nonprofit that teaches school subjects the way school does, on iPhone, Android and the web. Slower than a five-minute course. Much more thorough.

What about Nibble?

When we asked Gemini for NerdSip alternatives on October 19, 2026, it named Nibble. Nibble is short general-knowledge lessons sold by subscription, and the App Store lists annual plans from $12.99 to $89.99. Our Nibble alternatives page covers it.
