What should I learn so AI doesn't replace me?
Learn two things: how AI actually works, and what it rewards in people, which is breadth, connecting ideas across fields, and asking better questions. edgi, a free iPhone app, teaches both a minute at a time: eight 60-second Lessons on how ChatGPT works, open from your first day, and Lessons across 105,000 ideas, each one a minute of guessing, tapping and testing an idea that ends in a card on a Map of how your knowledge connects. Got a follow-up? Make a Lesson on it.
We make edgi, and we built it on one bet: in an age of intelligent machines, curiosity is humanity's edge.

Step one: understand the thing you're worried about
Most of the fear around AI comes from not knowing what it is. Eight ideas fix that, and they're the eight cards of edgi's Set How ChatGPT Actually Works: embeddings, attention, transformers, self-supervised learning, scaling laws, why a chatbot makes things up, and more. Once you know that a model writes by guessing one word at a time and can never take a word back, you know what it's good for, where it fails, and why it needs a person checking it. That's the most valuable AI skill most people don't have. More on learning how AI works.
Then there's the second Set, How Would We Know If AI Thinks?, on the Turing test, the Chinese room, AGI and alignment. One card in it explains why the work AI takes over isn't the work people expected:

Moravec's Paradox
Computers beat us at chess decades ago, but a robot still struggles to clear your table. Moravec said the easy things are the hard ones.
Step two: learn what AI rewards
The World Economic Forum's Future of Jobs Report 2025 puts AI and big data at the top of its fastest-growing skills, and lists curiosity and lifelong learning among the skills employers expect to keep rising through 2030.
Lists like that stop at the noun. Nobody tells you how to build "curiosity" on a Tuesday afternoon. In practice it's three habits:
- Breadth. AI is a superb specialist on demand. The person who knows a little about a lot is the one who knows what to ask it. Learn across fields every day.
- Connections. The valuable ideas sit where fields meet: psychology and design, biology and economics, history and law. On edgi's Map, 36% of all connections cross from one field to another, and your Map shows which ones you've made.
- Better questions. You can only ask a sharp question about something you half-know. Every new idea gives you a new question, and in edgi you can make a Lesson on it the moment it shows up.
A minute a day, for months
None of this happens in a weekend course. It happens a minute at a time, every day, for months. edgi makes that the easy part: one Lesson keeps your streak, a widget on your home screen shows it, every Lesson earns a card, cards turn foil and then gold as you come back to the idea, Sets have a finish line, and the Map fills in so you can see your range grow. Five Lessons a day is five minutes, and a year of it is more than 1,800 ideas.
