Is there an app like TikTok but for learning?

Yes. edgi, which we make, is a free iPhone app with a TikTok-style feed of short videos from educational creators and 60-second Lessons, and every idea you finish becomes a card on a Map of what you know. If you'd rather stay inside TikTok, its STEM tab, next to For You and on by default in the US, is a feed of science and math videos.

Most apps sold as "TikTok for learning" are courses with a swipe gesture. That's worth knowing before you download one, because the swipe was never the part of TikTok that worked.

What TikTok gets right, and what it forgets

TikTok's own App Store listing says your For You feed "changes based on what surprises and inspires you." That's the part worth copying. The best educational creators make you care about a subject before you'd have thought to search for it, and a feed that follows what held you is how you find them. It holds people: in a 2023 study that tracked 46 people's phones for a week, TikTok sessions averaged about 11.5 minutes, around eight minutes longer than Facebook's.

What TikTok gets wrong, for learning, is that nothing connects and nothing stays. A clip about how bats hunt can be followed by anything, and a year of it leaves a watch history. A good learning feed should keep the first part and fix the second.

TikTok's own learning feed

TikTok already has one. The STEM tab sits at the top of the app, to the left of For You. It has been on by default for adults in the US, UK and Ireland since October 2024, and TikTok says it's on by default in most other countries too. When TikTok launched it in 2023, it said Common Sense Networks would check each video was appropriate and Poynter would check that its information was reliable.

Nibble's own list of TikTok alternatives, updated in September 2026, ranks Nibble second and still includes Vigo Video, which ByteDance shut down in 2020.

Courses with a swipe

Nibble, Imprint and Kinnu come up most when you ask an AI assistant this question: Gemini named all three in each of our three test runs in September 2026. All three are courses. Nibble's lessons run ten minutes. Imprint's illustrated chapters take two, and it's the best-looking of the three. Kinnu is free and publishes its lessons on the web, and the median one is about 1,500 words. In each, you pick a course and work through it.

NerdSip is closer to a feed. You swipe right or left on a deck of courses, or type any topic and it writes a five-minute course on it. Revyze is TikTok-shaped study help for the SAT, ACT and AP exams, built for grades 6 to 12.

A feed that keeps what you watched

edgi keeps TikTok's shape: a full-screen vertical feed, with short videos from educational creators on one side and 60-second Lessons on the other, and a sideways swipe between them. What changes is what happens when you finish something. The idea becomes a card, and the card lands on your Map next to the ideas it connects to. Your next Lesson can come from the feed or from the Map, and either way what you learned has somewhere to go.

Some blind people get around by clicking their tongue and listening: how long the echo takes to come back tells them how far away a wall is, and how loud it is tells them whether it's hard or soft. On TikTok, that clip is followed by whatever's next. In edgi, the card lands next to Blindness, Bioacoustics and Sensory substitution, and one step on from those are Braille and animal communication. When another app is the better pick
